Learning Objectives:

1) Introduce Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems (EIFS) as an exterior insulated cladding solution.

2) Examine the composition of EIFS, their material component layers, installation steps, water management capacities and energy efficiency impacts.

3) Review design flexibility attributes of EIFS for architectural style, color, texture and ability to replicate architectural aesthetics such as stucco, brick, limestone, granite, weathered steel and metal panel.

4) Reinforce the positive attributes of locating continuous insulation (CI) to the exterior of traditional wall assemblies such as enhanced effective R-value, dew point management, improved energy efficiency which support today’s sustainable / green design practices when compared to other claddings.
